Arsenal have continued their winning start to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season with a 4-0 victory over West Ham United at Meadow Park.
Kim Little netted a brace for The Gunners while Beth Mead was also on target for Jonas Eidevall’s side. The fourth goal came in the form of an own goal with Grace Fisk putting the ball into her own net.
A sloppy start from the hosts handed West Ham United a couple of early opportunities but both Claudia Walker and Tameka Yallop were unable to take advantage.
Arsenal soon got some control of the game and Caitlin Foord saw an effort strike the post before Nikita Parris failed to force the loose ball home. Foord then saw her diving header kept out by visiting keeper Mackenzie Arnold before Mead thumped an effort against the post.
The hosts continued to push for the opening goal with Foord, Mana Iwabuchi and Parris going close before they finally broke the deadlock through Little’s clinical low finish.
Arsenal doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half with Little again finding the back of the net with another powerful finish, this time her shot nestling in the roof of Arnold’s net.
Foord then tested Arnold from a tight angle before the West Ham United keeper did superbly well to push Mead’s effort onto the bar, a stunning stop.
Mead would get her goal moments later when some great work from Parris allowed her to beat Arnold when one-on-one with the Australian international.
A series of substitutes took some of the string out of the final half-hour but Arsenal would end the match 4-0 winners with visiting defender Fisk directing a Mead cross into her own net in the final few minutes.
Arsenal end the weekend three points clear at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table while West Ham United are sixth.
