Match Report: Arsenal 3-1 West Bromwich Albion – Saka shines playing ‘left back’

Saka was basically our only attacking threat during in the early stages of the game. In fact it was the visitors who were doing all the attacking during that period.

Arsenal were making little impact, until Saka got to the back line again and put in a wonderful cross for Smith-Rowe to score his very first Premier League goal for the Gunners in the 29th minute.

Five minutes later, Pepe curled a sensational strike into the top-left hand corner, and put another nail in Big Sam’s coffin.

Arsenal actually look like they are enjoying their football again. We created chances to add to our advantage before the break through Gabriel Martinelli, Chambers and Saka.

We continued to dominate after the break but out of the blue Matheus Pereira pulled one back for the Baggies midway through the second half after very poor defending by Arsenal.

That goal gave visitors hope and some nervy moments for us during the closing stages until Willian rubbed salt into Albion’s wounds by scoring an elusive first Arsenal goal late on with a brilliant free-kick in 90th minute.

Victory for Arsenal at home which shattered Allardyce’s record of having never been relegated from the top flight.

Finally something to cheer for the Gooners.
