Ex-Arsenal boss Wenger: Europe wants to destroy Prem – yet we’re doing it to ourselves

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has slammed attempts to launch a Super League breakaway.

Wenger says the competition’s foundations were always doomed to failure.

He told the Telegraph, “The basis of our sporting culture in Europe is to have access to high-level competition through merit.

“I don’t understand how anyone could believe that limiting the link between national leagues and access to the top league would be accepted just like that.”

Wenger also stated that “everyone in Europe dreams of destroying the Premier League”.

“Everybody dreams of destroying the Premier League in Europe. In England we do it ourselves. I can’t understand the rationale behind that because England voted for Brexit and now they want to bring in a Super League. The English has the strongest league. The Super League would destroy, 100%, the Premier League.”
