The Swiss midfielder put in a really solid performance despite playing as a makeshift left-back against Sheffield United.
Arteta believes Xhaka can even play as a centre-back if needed but he’ll decide whether or not to continue playing him at left-back before the game.
When asked about whether he’ll again play Granit Xhaka as a left-back against Slavia Prague, Mikel Arteta said in his pre-match press conference: “We looked at our options in relation to the opponent and the formation that we wanted to use to fit the qualities of the players that we had available.
“Obviously not having Kieran (Tierney), it was a big hit because of what he produces and how important he is on the team. Now we have to find different ways and the good thing with Granit is that he can play in two or three different positions.
“I can see him still playing as a centre back when it’s needed because of his discipline, his commitment and his qualities and he did a good job in a different game, for the way Sheffield were set up. We’ll decide tomorrow.”
Xhaka put in a commendable performance in Arsenal’s 3-0 win at Sheffield United from the left-back spot, barking orders at teammates to keep them reinvigorated. The Swiss midfielder will hope to replicate the same against Slavia Prague and help the Gunners get a big win to move into the Europa League semi-finals.
