Granit Xhaka is aiming for a return to the Bundesliga, with Hertha BSC a possible destination, according to reports in Germany.
Sky Germany report that although Granit Xhaka is clearly a key member of the current Arsenal side, he’s aiming for a return to the Bundesliga. The same outlet gives Hertha BSC as an option, where Matteo Guendouzi is currently on loan (but won’t be staying).
Undoubtedly, that particular move would largely depend on how the rest of the season plays out. Hertha are currently only one or two points away from finding themselves involved in a relegation play-off, and they’re three points above automatic relegation.
If Hertha go down, there’s no way they can afford to sign Xhaka, and you wouldn’t expect him to want to go anyway. But if they stay up, they’ll view next season as a chance to push back up the table if they can invest well.
But Hertha aren’t the only team you’d expect to show an interest in Xhaka. For all his individual errors, he still clearly contributes a lot to Arsenal, and perhaps he would offer even more back in the league where he made his name in the first place.
For now, Xhaka is away captaining Switzerland and playing 90 minutes of every single match available to him. Nothing new there.
