Inter Miami announce signing of Kieran Gibbs

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that Kieran Gibbs will join Inter Miami upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.

Both West Brom and Inter Miami announced on Tuesday that Kieran Gibbs will move between the two clubs this summer. ESPN had previously reported that Gibbs was expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with David Beckham’s club.

Gibbs said of the move: “I’m extremely excited to be starting the next chapter of my career with Inter Miami this summer. I look forward to embracing a new culture and a new challenge in South Florida.

“I’m really impressed by the vision of the Club, and can’t wait to play in front of The Siege, Southern Legion, and Vice City 1896.

“In the meantime, my focus and commitment remains with West Brom. I will continue to give 100% for the club, as I have done since I signed, until the end of the season.”

Gibbs’ contract with the Baggies expires in the summer, at which point he’ll be free to move across the Atlantic. New York Red Bulls and DC United also expressed an interest in the left-back, but never entered into serious negotiations.

Phil Neville is currently in charge of Inter Miami, who are yet to kick off their campaign due to the MLS calendar-year format.

Obviously, this means Gibbs will arrive halfway through the campaign, but he doesn’t have much choice given he’s still under contract with West Brom.

At 31, Gibbs has only played for three clubs in his senior career so far. He spent over a decade at Arsenal, going on one short-term loan to Norwich City. Then he joined West Bromwich Albion.

In all, he made well over 300 appearances in English football and won three FA Cups and two Community Shields with Arsenal.
