Arsenal are making 20-year-old Club Brugge defender Odilon Kossounou one of their top targets for the summer, according to a report.
The Mirror report that Arsenal and Inter Milan are both keen on signing 20-year-old centre-back Odilon Kossounou from Club Brugge this summer. There is also interest from Spain, but the player views the Premier League as an attractive prospect.
The deal wouldn’t be out of Arsenal’s price range, with the same outlet suggesting Kossounou would cost around £8.5m with add-ons.
Gervinho and Emmanuel Eboue have reportedly given Arsenal glowing references for the Ivory Coast international. Kossounou made his debut for the country last October, appearing in each of their last four games.
The article makes no mention of whether current Arsenal player Nicolas Pepe has given positive feedback on his international teammate, but you have to assume he hasn’t said anything to put the club off.
Strangely, the Mirror refer to Kossonou as a midfielder and suggest his signing may be influenced by the club’s ability (or inability) to do deals for Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard.
The defender can play and has played in defensive midfield on occasion, but he’s a centre-back.
Specifically, a right-centre-back, which is perhaps something appealing to Arsenal. The Gunners have Gabriel, David Luiz, Pablo Mari, and William Saliba, who all seem to be more comfortable on the left. A natural right-centre-back might help them find balance.
