Is Sissoko the Man to Solve Arsenal’s Midfield Puzzle?

It is only natural for the transfer rumour mill to grind into life following a major tournament, although as we have seen in the past signing a player who has done the business at a World Cup or a European Championship does not always guarantee success (cough El-Hadji Diouf cough). But what about a bloke who has plenty of Premier League experience, and who burst back into prominence with a series of fine showings at Euro 2016? One such example would be Moussa Sissoko, who despite a season of mediocrity and disappointment at Newcastle United became a key figure in […]

Arsenal begin preparations for new season

Arsenal stars who were not involved in Euro 2016 and Copa America returned to training for the first time on Wednesday. In the absence of players such as Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny, new signing Granit Xhaka, and Alexis Sanchez, who was player of the tournament as Chile won the Copa America for the second time in two years, Arsene Wenger had the chance to watch some of his fringe players more closely, with Yaya Sanogo back in training after a loan spell at Charlton last season, Chuba Akpom, who helped Hull to promotion, and Mathieu Debuchy, […]

Arsenal stars to turn their attention towards Euro 2016

Finishing above our local neighbours Tottenham for the twenty-first consecutive season is reason enough to celebrate and believe it has been a successful campaign, but it should be valued as a missed opportunity. Arsenal may never get a better chance to end their long wait for a Premier League title, with Leicester City producing the biggest shock in league history by finishing ten points clear at the top in a season where the big guns continued to falter. The Gunners are not exempt from this, with complacency, tactical stubbornness and an inability to produce big performances when the team is […]

Arsenal 1 – 0 Norwich

Arsenal’s stale end of season form continued against Norwich on Saturday. The biggest positive to come out of this game was the result which we desperately needed to finish in the top four and the clean sheet thanks to Petr Chech. The biggest worry was Alexis Sanchez’s form and his attitude when he was rightly taken off towards the end of the game. I also think Giroud needs to go back to basics and push reset button as he has desperately lost his self-confidence. Despite the few protests by a handful ‘time for a change’ supporters, the Arsenal fans showed […]

Arsenal 2 – 0 W.B.A.

From Arsene Wenger’s point of view this game was always going to be a no win situation. Win; the whole football world would start moaning about how finishing in the top 4 is not good enough …. And lose; …a Gunnerdom meltdown. Back on form Alexis and impressive Ramsey who started the game after an injury lay off inspired Arsenal to victory in a subdued atmosphere at the Emirates. Replacing out of sorts Gabriel with Mertesacker also helped to steady the defense but Chec still looked a bit ring rusty. (Goals: 1-0, 2-0) Even in a convincing win like this […]

Arsenal 1 – 1 Crystal Palace

Yet another hugely disappointing performance and result for Arsenal and the sad reality is that it is becoming a very regular occurrence. The fluency of our attack is gone, the defense is looking very suspect again and the team in general has become very predictable. But most worryingly we are getting into a terrible habit of throwing winning positions away due to ill discipline and naivety. Gabriel has not fulfill the promise he has shown earlier in his Arsenal career and looks a bit out of his depth. Bellerin’s form has dipped alarmingly and needs to improve on his final ball and […]

West Ham 3 – 3 Arsenal

Working at the weekends is over and Gunner Talk Players Rating Blog is back! But… Straight into moaning today: Losing a 2 goal lead in a must win game is bad enough but not being surprised by it is even worse. To rub salt into our wounds was to watch both teams above us in the league win yesterday. What possessed Arsene Wenger not to play our fit again, first choice goalkeeper Petr Chec, who is 6’.6” and dominates the 18 yard area much better than Ospina, against a team which includes Andy Carroll in their squad is anybody’s guess. […]

Welbeck shines but Arsenal still need a world class striker

Olivier Giroud’s Arsenal career may be coming to an end. For the last few years, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has placed all of his trust in the Frenchman only for his compatriot to underperform and struggle in front of goal. In fact, Giroud has scored just two goals – in an FA Cup replay against Hull City – since January 13th and the Gunners have flourished with Danny Welbeck at the helm, especially in recent fixtures against Everton and Watford. Welbeck isn’t the world class talent that Arsenal need upfront but he’s certainly better than Giroud. The former Manchester […]

Arsenal, England and Euro 2016: Why they aren’t a match made in Heaven

The England team will make its way to France this summer for Euro 2016. However, if the fantasy football pundits are to be believed, then none of the Arsenal squad will be joining them. Despite riding high in the Premier League, football nut @JonnyGabriel has found that none of Arsenal’s English lads would be lining up on June 11 if Roy Hodgson used each player’s fantasy football rankings to pick his team. Reviewing this season’s fantasy football rankings, @JonnyGabriel found that zero Arsenal players, one Liverpool player and two Man City pros would make it into […]
