The January transfer window has been relatively quiet up to this point. The biggest transfer has beenCarlos Tevez making the move from Boca Juniors to Shanghai Shenhua. Tevez is now the world’s highest-paid footballer.
Tevez signed a two-year contract worth $41 million annually. The Chinese Super League has been splashing around big money in recent years and it’s only a matter of time before more stars leave the UK and Europe.
We’re unlikely to see Premier League clubs make a huge splash during the January transfer window because they spent record money in the summer and most teams will likely wait until the summer to make any big moves.
However, with most teams holding firm or adding depth, Arsenal would be wise to bring in a striker. If anything were to happen to Olivier Giroud, the Gunners would have trouble remaining in the top four on the table.
Giroud is only third on the team in scoring this season with 7 goals, but he has scored 4 of those goals in the club’s last five league matches. However, adding another striker could help the Gunners win the Premier League title.
Arsenal aren’t lacking depth either, as Danny Welbeck is fit again and Alex Iwobi is playing well. Theo Walcott is still sidelined, but could be back in the mix upfront soon too, but none of these guys could replace Giroud full-time.
Two strikers that have been recently linked to the Gunners are Alvaro Morata and Pierre Emirck-Aubameyang.
Real Madrid appear to be prepared to sell Morata, as he has been angering the manager recently and he hasn’t been cracking the starting line-up. While Morata would be a nice addition, he isn’t the top target.
Emirck-Aubameyang plays for Borussia Dortmund and he’s having another great season. In 15 league matches he has netted 16 goals on 56 shots. He is Wenger’s preferred transfer target, but he will be tough to buy.
Wenger loves players with pace and Emirck-Aubameyang would open up the pitch for everyone else.

If Arsenal are unable to sign a goal-scoring forward this winter, they may be forced to this summer. Alexis Sanchez is leading the team with 15 goals, which is tied for first in the Premier League with Diego Costa.
Sanchez still hasn’t signed a contract extension and no one is sure if he will this summer. If Sanchez walks, Arsenal are going to be in a tough position, as they’ll be severely lacking in the goal-scoring department.
Arsenal don’t necessarily need to make a splash in the transfer market to win the title. The Gunners are second on the league table with 47 points, but they’re having trouble gaining ground on Chelsea (55 Points).
The Gunners had a rough December, losing two Manchester City (2-1) and Everton (2-1) in consecutive weeks, but they have bounced back with a 4-1-0 record since then and are holding the clubs closing in on them.
With the schedule picking up, adding a striker would be beneficial so that Giroud can rest a bit too. Arsenal will begin the Champions League knockout stage next month against Bayern Munich.
