From Arsene Wenger’s point of view this game was always going to be a no win situation. Win; the whole football world would start moaning about how finishing in the top 4 is not good enough …. And lose; …a Gunnerdom meltdown.
Back on form Alexis and impressive Ramsey who started the game after an injury lay off inspired Arsenal to victory in a subdued atmosphere at the Emirates. Replacing out of sorts Gabriel with Mertesacker also helped to steady the defense but Chec still looked a bit ring rusty. (Goals: 1-0, 2-0)
Even in a convincing win like this the problems with this current Arsenal team was evident: The final ball and the end product! We should have won the game so much more convincingly. Towards the end he had to bring on an extra defensive midfielder to secure the 3 points.
It is mind boggling that Arsene Wenger presumed that Arsenal would win the Premier League with only 1 out and out striker in the squad who is a target man. Has any team win a league without a 20+ a season striker… or 2? We don’t even have 1 of those.
I would never insult AW but that does not mean that he is beyond criticism and he has to shoulder the responsibility for not buying a much needed top striker in the January transfer window who probably would have won us the league this season. Instead he tried to address the problem within the squad. Neither Walcott nor Welbeck is that player!
