A perfect scenario for Arsenal

There is this question that I am struggling to find an answer to: Would I have taken finishing 3rd in the league and winning the FA cup at the beginning of this season? Tough one to find an answer to as I think this Arsenal team has the potential to do better but for a couple of upgrades in certain positions… Definitely the best squad we’ve had since the Invincibles.

Of course we are still yet to negotiate the FA Cup Final at the weekend against Aston Villa, when BBC will be reviving the tradition of all-day coverage of the Wembley showpiece, with more news and information at BetHut.

Last weekend’s win against WBA topped up by impressive performances by Walcott and Wilshere gives Arsene Wenger “a problem nice to have” for selecting the starting 11 for the Final; to play Giroud who has been struggling for goals recently but had a decent season overall or to play Walcott who scored a first half hat-trick and looked very sharp last weekend.  Rest of the team picks itself with Szczesny replacing Ospina as usual.

There is no doubt there has been a gradual progress towards being a team to challenge for the major honours in the last couple of years. Winning the FA cup for the second time in succession will go a long way to install much needed belief for our squad to get there in the upcoming season.

I am very pleased with the creative quality of our squad with Ozil, Cazorla, Wilshere, Ramsey, Alexis, Chamberlain and Rosicky but despite the emergence of Coquelin, I feel there is a room for improvement for defensive midfield position. Same could be said for Goalkeeping personnel we have at present time. We have 2 very good keepers but I believe a winning team must at least have one World class Number 1.

For some unknown reason Arsene Wenger has been underestimating this vital position since Lehman’s retirement. Manone, Almunia and Fabianski have been disasters, current keepers Szczesny and Ospina do not tick all the boxes albeit they are both decent. Maybe we have been spoilt by having 2 amazing keepers in Seaman and Lehman previous to above named.

A top GK and a towering DM in this summer transfer window backed by another FA cup win would be a perfect scenario to push on and only then I would not be satisfied with finishing 3rd in the league and winning the FA cup at the start of the next season.
