Seventeen is one of my favourite numbers. Both my kids were born on the 17th thanks to my x-wife. She was so perfect she only gave birth on the 17th and looks like me being born on the 16th just wasn’t good enough for her^^.
Now, Arsenal qualified for the Champions League for the 17th time. I love number 17; I wish I was born on the 17th 😉 … Probably would still have a wife now if that was the case.Who knows maybe we will win the whole thing at the 17th attempt, then 17 will be a sacred number for me and will start using phrases like ‘holy seventeen!’
It wasn’t easy getting there though. Besiktas gave us a very stern test over the 2 legs. At the end we went through by the skin of our teeth, thanks to Alexis’ first goal for Arsenal along with some Wilshere wizardry at the edge of their box.
It was a typical CL qualifier scrap last night and the lads came good, very good! I was very impressed with the whole team’s performance in the second half. The way Cazorla put a shift in for the team was a sight for the sore eyes. Alexis in the second half was so good, it was ‘pinch yourself; he really is ours’ time. It also was so good to see the real Wilshere… Our Jack is back!
What can you say about the CB pairing at the heart of our defence? Just awesome, both with %97 pass accuracy, amazing! Once again, Debuchy proved that he is an upgrade on Sagna and Monreal is getting better each time I see him play, his crossing is World Class when he gets forward. He should have had another assist with that brilliant low cross to far post but for Ox hitting the GK from point blank range.
Even more dodgy refereeing in the second half could stop us going into Champions League stage for the record 17th time thanks to gritty defending from the whole team and I loved it.
Team line up and Ratings: (I should rate all 17 out of 20 but…)
Szczesny 73, Debuchy 77, Mertesacker 74, Koscielny 75, Monreal 74, Flamini 63, Wilshere 83 MOTM, Cazorla 78, Ozil 68, Chamberlain 70, Alexis 81, Subs: Chambers 70
